Nigerian singer Fireboy DML has opened up about his personal life, characterizing the dating landscape in Lagos as “a mess” while acknowledging that he thrives within its dynamics.
The artist, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, made these comments during a recent appearance on the Reprezent podcast. He revealed that the complexities of modern romance in Nigeria’s bustling capital served as the direct inspiration for his recent single, “Ashawo.”
“In my song ‘Ashawo,’ I was trying to paint a picture of what the dating scene is like in Lagos where I live,” Fireboy stated. “It’s a mess. It is chaotic.”
Despite this assessment, the “Peru” hitmaker confessed that he has learned to navigate the environment successfully. He shared a personal insight into how relationships serve as an outlet for him, particularly during stressful periods.
“But I thrive with girls,” he said. “When I’m under pressure, I usually find balance in girls.”
The artist did not clarify his current relationship status, leaving it undisclosed whether he is involved in a committed partnership.
The podcast interview also touched on other aspects of Fireboy’s life and career, including the significant role his label boss, Olamide, played in his rise to fame and the initial strain his tattoos caused in his relationship with his father.
