Liverpool manager Arne Slot says his side can still achieve “special things” this season despite a shaky start to their Premier League title defence.
The reigning champions face league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, sitting fourth on the table and 14 points behind the Gunners.
Liverpool’s season has been uneven. They suffered nine defeats in 12 matches across all competitions earlier on, but are now unbeaten in their last nine games. That run, however, includes four draws.
Two of those draws came in their opening Premier League matches of 2026 — a goalless draw against Leeds United and a 2-2 result with Fulham.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Slot admitted his team have dropped too many points.
“We are unbeaten in nine games, but we have drawn too many matches,” he said.
The Dutch coach, who led Liverpool to the league title in his first season after replacing Jurgen Klopp, said the team still has quality.
“We are not where we want to be, but we have a very talented squad. If everyone is fit and ready, I believe we can still do special things,” Slot added.
Liverpool have shown flashes of their quality this season, including a 1-0 win over Arsenal at Anfield in August.
“We have had some very good wins, but also some poor draws and losses. The problem has been consistency,” Slot said.
Among their standout results are home wins against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, and a 5-1 away victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
However, Liverpool have also struggled defensively, losing by three goals at home to Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven.
