Manchester United are considering the unusual option of appointing two interim managers following the dismissal of head coach Ruben Amorim.
Amorim was sacked on Monday after a troubled 14-month spell at Old Trafford, a reign widely regarded as one of the poorest in the club’s recent history.
United have decided against appointing a permanent replacement immediately and will wait until the summer before making a long-term decision. Former midfielder Darren Fletcher, currently an Under-18s coach, will take charge of Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Burnley.
Reports indicate the club is in talks with former United players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick about taking charge of the first team until the end of the season.
Another club legend, Ruud van Nistelrooy, has also declared interest in the role and is believed to be under consideration.
However, Solskjaer and Carrick are said to be the leading candidates, with further discussions expected later this week.
According to the Press Association, both men held informal talks with United’s sporting director Jason Wilcox on Tuesday, with more meetings planned after the team’s midweek trip to Turf Moor
