Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana, could be on his way out of Old Trafford as he considers a loan move to Turkish club Trabzonspor.
The 29-year-old was earlier linked with Galatasaray, but the Istanbul side signed Turkey’s World Cup qualifier hero Ugurcan Cakir from Trabzonspor in a €36m deal instead.
With Cakir gone, Trabzonspor have turned their focus to Onana and believe he can make an immediate impact. The Turkish transfer window is still open until September 12, giving room for talks to continue.
Onana is currently with Cameroon on international duty, but his future at United has been uncertain for months. He lost his place in the team after a string of costly mistakes last season and has since dropped down coach Ruben Amorim’s list of options.
United added more pressure in the summer by signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, meaning Onana now competes with Altay Bayindir and veteran Tom Heaton for a place. Although the club had said they were fine with four senior goalkeepers, Amorim has been clear he wants a smaller squad, especially with no European football this season.
Onana’s most recent game was the shock EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, where he was blamed for one of the goals in the 2-0 loss.
Signed from Inter Milan in 2023 for £47.2m, Onana was brought in to replace long-serving keeper David De Gea, but his United career has so far been filled with errors and criticism.
With Trabzonspor now showing interest, Onana may see Turkey as a chance to revive his career.
