Body: Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Mohbad, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing legal dispute over the paternity of his grandson, Liam, which is yet to be determined through DNA testing.
In February, an Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court approved three separate DNA tests to be conducted abroad — two in the United Kingdom and one in the United States. Representatives from both parties, including Aloba and Wunmi, Mohbad’s widow, are expected to oversee the sample collection process. The case was adjourned until April 7.
However, in a recent interview with blogger Adebukola, Aloba accused the court of mismanaging the process. He claimed that a welfare officer attached to the case had allegedly selected a fake testing centre and suggested possible complicity within the Lagos State judiciary.
“I have been calling Baba Tinubu. I want to do this DNA and bury my son. It is an untimely death. It should not have been this long,” Aloba said.
“If I bury him, how will samples be taken from his body for the DNA. I am only requesting a DNA. I only need DNA to determine whether I have a grandson,” he added.
Aloba further expressed frustration over perceived delays and opposition, stating, “I want to plead with the whole world, not only Lagos State. They are supporting a criminal. I pray I do not regret coming to Lagos. Do you know I am returning to Ekiti? I am no longer living in Lagos.”
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, following an injection by an auxiliary nurse. He was buried the next day, but his body was exhumed on September 21 for an autopsy. By May 2024, pathologists reported that advanced decomposition made it impossible to determine the cause of death.
Throughout this period, Aloba has refused to allow his son’s remains to be reburied until the paternity of Liam is legally established. In September, the court ordered that the DNA test be conducted at a government-approved facility, a directive that has yet to be fully implemented
