The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed a viral poster claiming that Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, popularly known as Sabinus, was wanted for obtaining money by false pretence.
The poster circulating online included Sabinus’s photo and alleged he was being investigated for financial crimes. In response, the EFCC branded the poster false and accused its creators of being “clout chasers,” urging them to stop spreading misleading content for attention.
“Clout chaser, stop this now!” the EFCC said in a Facebook post, making it clear that the comedian had no case pending with the agency.
Reacting to the false claims via Instagram Story, Sabinus laughed off the attempt to implicate him, writing in pidgin English:
“Una wan use EFCC enter me but EFCC say Sabinus is a good boy.”
Sabinus, who began his online comedy career in 2015, rose to mainstream fame in 2019. He has featured in several Nollywood productions, including Billionaire’s Bride and Man of War. In 2022, he was named Best Online Content Creator at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The EFCC’s swift response highlights the growing trend of misleading viral content targeting celebrities, warning the public to verify such claims before sharing.
