Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular comedian and content creator Bamidele Oluwatope Saint, widely known as Okemesi.
The tragic news was confirmed on Tuesday by his colleague Jeff Owolewa, also known as Tony Montana, who revealed that the actor was pronounced dead at about 11:50 a.m. after battling serious health complications. His remains have reportedly been deposited in a morgue.
According to reports, Okemesi had been struggling with worsening health issues in recent weeks. Sources close to the actor disclosed that he slipped into a coma following complications linked to medication administered during treatment at a private hospital.
Before his death, the comedian had publicly appealed for financial assistance after his condition left him financially strained and without accommodation. Fans, colleagues, and well-wishers later rallied support, helping him secure a new apartment just days before his health reportedly deteriorated further.
Efforts were said to have been made to transfer him to other medical facilities, including a government hospital in Igodo, but admission challenges due to lack of available space delayed further treatment.
Okemesi was widely loved for his comic performances and relatable online skits, earning him a growing fan base within Nigeria’s entertainment scene. His passing has since sparked emotional reactions across social media, with fans and colleagues paying tribute to the late entertainer.
His death marks another painful loss for Nollywood, leaving many remembering him for the laughter and creativity he brought to audiences both on screen and online.
