Nigeria international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has dismissed rumours linking him with a return to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), insisting that his focus remains on opportunities outside West Africa.

The 29-year-old is currently a free agent following his departure from Chippa United in February. Nwabali had formally requested to leave the South African club, a decision that was granted, leaving him to consider his next career move.

Amid calls from fans and football figures, including former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peterside Idah, urging him to return temporarily to the NPFL, Nwabali made it clear that he is looking at leagues with higher competitive standards and financial appeal, particularly in Europe and other parts of Africa.

“In West Africa, our leagues are not as good. We want to go to Europe, we want to come to South Africa, we want to go to Morocco,” he explained.

Nwabali also highlighted the importance of league structure and remuneration abroad in such career decisions. “The league, the pay is a little bit nice for a certain level of your team. If your league is nice, you’re getting paid, you’re getting sponsors, what are you leaving for?” he added.

The goalkeeper, who has previously featured in the NPFL for Go Round, Wikki Tourists, Enyimba, Lobi Stars, and Katsina United, has been linked with a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs. However, he insisted that talks remain speculative and that rumours often reflect recognition of a player’s quality rather than confirmed negotiations.

“So, it’s rumours everywhere. Anyone talking about any club, rumour. When people wish you well, and they want you to do something, or they prefer you, you know,” Nwabali said.
“It’s not like it’s a bad idea. When someone is relevant and they know your quality, they might suggest another place. But, you know, it’s just a rumour.”

Addressing concerns over his Super Eagles prospects, Nwabali remained unfazed, emphasizing that he is in no rush to make a decision. He stated that he is open to opportunities globally and will only commit once the right offer comes.

“Rumours are always rumours. So, when you see me signing for any club, you will know from that day, or probably the day I’m wearing the club’s shirt,” he said.
“I’m not worried… I don’t have a particular place or country I want to play for. Anywhere that welcomes me well, I can play. That’s it.”
