The estate of late reggae icon Ras Kimono is reportedly under threat following claims of a fraudulent property transaction.
Oge Kimono, the musician’s daughter, has raised an alarm over a plot of land in Ota, Ogun State, which she said was being sold without legal authority. According to Oge, Sybil, Ras Kimono’s first wife—whom he legally divorced in 2005—attempted to dispose of the property despite having no mandate to act on behalf of the estate.
“At the time of his passing, the late Ras Kimono was legally married to Ms. Cynthia Dumas, whom he married in 2007. The said individual has no legal authority or mandate to act on behalf of the Estate or to dispose of any of its assets,” Oge stated.
She described the purported sale as “unauthorized, invalid, and of no legal effect,” and warned that the family intends to preserve and develop the estate in honour of Ras Kimono’s legacy.
Oge further cautioned the public, noting, “Members of the public, prospective buyers, and real estate agents are strongly advised to refrain from entering into any transaction with the said individual concerning any property tied to the Estate. Any person or entity engaging in such dealings does so at their own risk and may face legal consequences, including recovery actions and claims for damages.”
The warning comes amid concerns that additional plots of the estate may be targeted. The family reiterated its commitment to protecting the late musician’s legacy and ensuring that his estate is preserved for posterity.
