American R&B singer Nivea has revealed that she was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year and is currently undergoing treatment.
The 44-year-old singer, best known for her 2002 hit Don’t Mess With My Man, disclosed her condition during an appearance on the Cadillac Chronicles podcast.
Nivea shared the news after host Brian Freeman asked what she was most grateful for.
“I was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year, and I’m so grateful to God,” she said.
The mother of four added that her treatment was progressing well and expressed confidence that her health would continue to improve.
Nivea embraces life after cancer diagnosis
The Laundromat hitmaker said the diagnosis had changed her outlook and helped her reassess what truly mattered in life.
According to her, the experience reminded her that life is unpredictable and encouraged her to live with greater gratitude.
Leukaemia is a form of cancer that affects blood-forming tissues and causes the body to produce abnormal white blood cells, weakening its ability to fight infections.
Nivea, whose full name is Nivea B. Hamilton, said she was now concentrating on her children, music and personal development.
She also revealed that she had returned to school to study audio engineering, particularly mixing and sound production.
Nivea, who was previously engaged to rapper Lil Wayne, has released three studio albums. Her most recent album, Mirrors, arrived in 2019, while she released the single Virginia in 2022.
She has also appeared on the reality dating series Queens Court.
