Popular Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has criticised Isaac Fayose for calling on President Bola Tinubu to resign or be impeached over the country’s economic challenges.
Fayose, in a viral video circulating online, attributed the apparent reduction in traffic on Lagos roads to worsening economic hardship, claiming that many residents could no longer afford fuel due to rising pump prices.
“Even Lagos roads that are always busy are now empty; poverty has made everyone park their cars. President Tinubu should resign now, Nigerians are suffering,” he said in Pidgin English.
He further urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to initiate impeachment proceedings, expressing pessimism about the state of national institutions.
Reacting via his X (formerly Twitter) account, Seyi Law dismissed Fayose’s assertions, offering a different perspective on the reduced traffic situation.
According to him, the development is largely due to recent improvements in Lagos transport infrastructure, including the commencement of operations on the metro rail lines and ongoing road projects.
“Anybody whose brain is functioning knows that since the Blue and Red metro lines started working and many roads were repaired and constructed—for example, the Lekki-Epe Expressway and coastal highway—traffic has reduced,” he wrote.
The comedian had earlier endorsed Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election and has remained one of his vocal supporters.
However, Seyi Law recently faced backlash after stating that Nigeria is “safer under the Tinubu administration than it was a decade ago.” He later apologised for the remark, admitting that his choice of words was insensitive.
