Nigerian singer, Shodade Solomon Segun, popularly known as Shoday, has revealed why he has chosen not to get tattoos despite being in the entertainment industry.

The 26-year-old artiste said his decision is tied to his backup plan in case music does not work out as expected.

Shoday made this known during a guest appearance on the Ada’s Room podcast.

According to him, he studied building technology in school and still wants to keep the option of returning to a traditional office job open.

Shoday says he may return to office work

The singer said he has avoided tattoos because he does not want anything that could affect his chances of fitting into a regular nine-to-five job if music fails.

“I studied building technology in school, and I am here doing music. I knew that if music does not work, look at my body, do you see any tattoos? It is because I am sceptical. If music does not work, I would dust my CV, and I am back in the office,” he said.

He added that he would also change his appearance if he ever had to return to office work.

“I’d be on low cuts. Straight up, I am back in the office,” he said.

Shoday speaks on faith and music career

Despite having a fallback plan, Shoday said he believes music is his life’s path.

The singer said his consistency and progress in the industry have strengthened his belief that God wants him to continue with music.

“This music is what I am doing for life. I used to tell people that if God did not want me to go far, I would not get to this point that I am currently at,” he said.

“The fact that I am here, and I have done it consistently, not one, not two, not five songs, and I am still here, that means God really want me to do this.”

Shoday advises fans to have plan B

The singer also advised fans and young creatives to always have a backup plan.

According to him, life does not always go as planned, and people must be ready to change direction when necessary.

“One thing I have kind of learned so far in life is that it would not be sweet. Sometimes, it would not go as planned. Always have plan B. Always know when to quickly flip the script and do something else,” he said.

Shoday’s Hybrid album

In February, Shoday released his debut album, Hybrid.

The 14-track project further strengthened his growing profile in the Nigerian music industry.

His comments have since drawn attention because many entertainers often embrace tattoos as part of their public image, but Shoday said he prefers to keep his options open.
