The main reason I qualify for the Awujale throne – K1 De-Ultimate

Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De-Ultimate, has again defended his claim to the Awujale of Ijebuland throne, saying his royal lineage gives him every right to contest.

K1 addressed critics during a performance on Sunday, insisting that those questioning his background only started doing so after he declared his interest in the vacant Awujale stool.

According to him, he is a true son of the Fidipotemole and Fusengbuwa lineages in Ijebu-Ode — families with recognised rights to the throne.

He said:
“I am from the Fidipotemole in Ijebu-Ode, and also from the Fusengbuwa of Ijebu-Ode. If you are questioning my lineage now because I want to be king, we will meet at Popo. It is my right; you can’t shut me up.
“Late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, was of sound mind when he made me Olori Omo-Oba. If I was not from a royal family, he would never have given me that title.”

K1 also invoked the late monarch’s “spirit” to reveal the truth about his ancestry, saying people were trying to “cover up” facts about his background.

His public defence comes days after a letter from him began circulating online. In the letter, dated December 3, 2025, he formally notified the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of his intention to contest for the throne, stating that he is a “bona fide son” of the family.

However, the Fusengbuwa ruling house has now asked K1 to prove he is truly a member of the family.
The chairman, Abdulateef Owoyemi, said the musician must complete the house’s royal lineage data form, which requires every contender to trace their ancestry back seven generations.

Owoyemi said the process will ensure that “only genuine princes” from the ruling house can take part in selecting the next Awujale and prevent “outsiders” from claiming the stool.

K1, who is currently the Olori Omo-Oba of Ijebuland, is expected to complete the verification process ahead of the selection of the new Awujale.
