President Bola Tinubu has personally reached out to Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi following the tragic death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State.

In a statement released Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the loss as heartbreaking and shared in the grief of Ndidi and his family.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I join in mourning with his family, friends, and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable football career,” the President said.

He also praised Sunday Ndidi’s modest beginnings and integrity, highlighting the positive influence he had on all who knew him. Tinubu prayed that God would grant comfort to the Ndidi family and eternal rest to the soul of the deceased.

Ndidi’s club, Leicester City, confirmed the incident, stating:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident.”

Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, was rushed to a hospital in Agbor after the accident but was pronounced dead.
