Nigerian music artist manager and entrepreneur Ubi Franklin has shared a deeply personal account of his past mental health struggles, revealing how severe depression led him to attempt suicide despite enjoying career and financial success.

In an educational video posted to his Instagram page, Franklin reflected on his marriage breakdown with ex-wife Lilian Esoro, explaining how the sudden end of the relationship left him overwhelmed by embarrassment and confusion. At the time, he was managing one of the biggest music acts in the country and believed he was ready to settle down, making the split particularly difficult to process.
“I went through some crazy depressing positions… I was so embarrassed, I don’t know what to do. I felt like what have I done to deserve all of this. I have a good career going for myself… so I just felt like it was time for me to settle down.”

Interventions and finding resolution

Franklin recalled driving to the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos during one of his darkest moments, crediting his cousin, Omini Stitches, with stepping in to save his life on multiple occasions.

Despite the initial pain, Franklin emphasized that both parties have since moved forward and built a healthy co-parenting relationship for their son. He noted that they remain close friends who continue to support each other’s endeavors.

Closing his message, Franklin urged followers not to hold onto hatred or resentment when relationships fall short of expectations, encouraging people to view life’s challenges as opportunities for personal growth and learning.
