Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has broken her silence over the backlash trailing her recent promotional video for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), insisting her decision was driven by patriotism, not politics.
The film star, in a post shared via her Instagram page on Sunday, responded to accusations of hypocrisy and political inconsistency following her appearance in a campaign promoting FAAN’s airport protocol services.
The video, which surfaced last week, showed Ojo encouraging travellers to make use of the agency’s protocol services, describing them as offering “comfort, speed, and exclusivity” for airport users.
However, the campaign quickly sparked heated reactions online, with critics questioning how the actress — previously vocal in her criticism of the current administration — could now promote a government-owned agency.
Addressing the controversy, Ojo disclosed that she was not paid for the promotional work.
According to the actress, she agreed to participate after being approached by FAAN because of what she described as visible progress and infrastructure improvements across the country, particularly in airport facilities and access roads.
She maintained that her decision was purely about national development and love for Nigeria.
“I’m Nigerian. And I’m a voice. When I see progress, airports upgraded, roads rebuilt, systems improved etc, I shout it from the rooftops, if need be, not because I’m paid, not because I’m political, but because I feel it and I want good for my country,” she wrote.
The actress further declared her readiness to support any government initiative focused on national growth, regardless of political affiliation.
“I will continue to use my craft, my voice, to promote Nigeria, and I’m unapologetic about it,” she added.
“… I’ll work with any political party — as long as it’s about building a better tomorrow for our dear nation. No hate. No agenda. Just hands joined. Let’s stop dividing. Start building.”
