The long-standing rivalry between Afrobeats heavyweights Wizkid and Burna Boy has taken a volatile turn following a physical altercation in Lagos. Wizkid has publicly blasted Burna Boy after reports surfaced that the “Last Last” singer and his team allegedly assaulted DJ Tunez, Wizkid’s official disc jockey.
The incident reportedly occurred at a Lagos nightclub on Monday night. Witnesses claim that Burna Boy and his entourage attacked DJ Tunez for allegedly refusing to play Burna Boy’s music during his set, leaving the DJ severely injured.
DJ Association bans Burna Boy’s music nationwide
In a swift reaction to the physical assault, the Nigerian DJ Association, NDJ, announced an immediate ban on Burna Boy’s songs. The association directed all members across the country to remove the singer’s tracks from their playlists as a mark of solidarity with their colleague.
Burna Boy appeared unfazed by the backlash, later posting a video on social media where he was seen dancing while wearing only a towel. Fans interpreted the video as a direct mockery of DJ Tunez and the growing controversy surrounding the nightclub brawl.
Wizkid labels Burna Boy a ‘fool’ in heated X post
Wizkid, clearly angered by the treatment of his long-time collaborator, took to his X handle to call out Burna Boy. He mocked the singer for needing a “10-man team” to confront a single DJ and made a derogatory reference to his choice of attire in the dance video.
“Pussy nigga Jump a dj with 10 man carry diddy towel Dey dance. I never see a fool like this diddy babe for my life,” Wizkid wrote.
The “Essence” star’s comments specifically touched on the towel Burna Boy wore, which Wizkid alleged belonged to embattled American rapper Diddy. This jab amplified existing social media rumors regarding the nature of Burna Boy’s past relationship with the American mogul.
Diddy connection and previous allegations resurface
The mention of Diddy adds a controversial layer to the feud, following the rapper’s 2024 arrest and subsequent imprisonment on sexual assault charges. Burna Boy has previously faced unsubstantiated claims regarding his professional ties to the rapper, which he has consistently denied.
