Bayern maul Auckland City 10–0 in Club World Cup Opener

Bayern Munich began their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign in style, thrashing New Zealand’s Auckland City 10–0 in their Group C opener at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

German star Jamal Musiala came off the bench to grab a quick second-half hat-trick, while Kingsley Coman, Michael Olise, and Thomas Müller all scored twice. Sacha Boey also found the net in what turned out to be one of Bayern’s biggest wins in the competition.

Bayern, who recently signed Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen, were dominant from the start. Coman scored the tournament’s first goal just six minutes in, and the floodgates opened from there. Boey and Olise quickly added two more before Coman scored again in the 21st minute to make it 4–0.

Thomas Müller made it five, and Olise completed his brace in added time of the first half with a beautiful curling shot from the right wing.

Despite trying to hold off further damage, Auckland couldn’t stop Musiala once he entered the game. The youngster scored three goals in just 18 minutes, one of them from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the box.

Müller wrapped up the scoring in the 89th minute, netting his 250th goal for Bayern.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany praised his team for staying focused:

“It was important to take the match seriously. It’s a good start, but tougher games lie ahead.”

Auckland City, made up mostly of amateur players who took unpaid leave to attend the tournament, admitted they were outmatched.

“We’re proud of our players for stepping into this kind of environment,” said interim coach Ivan Vicelich. “It’s a dream come true to play against a team of this level.”

The 10-goal margin equals Bayern’s largest Bundesliga win, when they defeated Borussia Dortmund 11–1 in 1971.

Next up, Bayern will face Boca Juniors on Friday in Miami, while Auckland City will take on Benfica the same day in Orlando.
