Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) kicked off their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a dominant 4–0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Los Angeles.
Fresh off their UEFA Champions League triumph, the French side showed no signs of slowing down. They took control early and never looked back, thrilling over 80,000 fans in the stadium.
Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring in the 19th minute after a slick team move, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia providing the assist. Vitinha doubled the lead just before halftime, finishing off another sharp counterattack.
Atletico Madrid struggled to keep up and were clearly frustrated. The Spanish side picked up several yellow cards in the first half, including bookings for Clement Lenglet, Robin Le Normand, and Giuliano Simeone.
Atletico had a brief moment of hope early in the second half when Julian Alvarez found the back of the net. However, VAR disallowed the goal for a foul during the build-up.
That was as close as Atletico got. Their night got worse when Lenglet was sent off in the 78th minute after receiving a second yellow card. Substitute Alexander Sorloth then missed a clear chance, firing over the bar with the goal wide open.
PSG quickly punished the miss. Senny Mayulu scored the third in the 87th minute, and Lee Kang-In wrapped things up with a penalty in stoppage time after a handball by Le Normand.
The 4–0 win places PSG at the top of Group B. They’ll face Brazilian club Botafogo next on Thursday, followed by a clash with Seattle Sounders on June 23.
