Nigerian singer, Emoseh Khamofu, popularly known as Bloody Civilian, has revealed that being an active musical artiste has completely influenced her worldview and altered her perceptions regarding domestic family values. Speaking during a recent episode of the Not Just On podcast, the Taraba-born star disclosed that conventional expectations from her regional background no longer interest her.
The twenty-six-year-old music producer stated that contrary to the deep desires of her extended family, she has absolutely no plans of getting married. She explained that her relatives keep pressuring her about matrimony without understanding that domestic life does not align with her career goals.
The alternative music sensation has gained international recognition for her unique sound, which often challenges conservative societal norms. Her bold declarations have sparked fresh conversations regarding the cultural pressures faced by young female creators from Northern Nigeria.
Family exerts persistent pressure on female artist
“One thing my family still does not understand about being an artiste is the fact that certain conventional things that they expect of a woman from the North are just simply not things that I am excited to do,” Bloody Civilian explained during the podcast.
She noted that artistic exposure broadens an individual’s horizon, making traditional paths less appealing. She expressed frustration over the continuous domestic inquiries regarding her personal relationship status.
“For instance, marriage is not something that I am thinking of at all. But that question keeps being brought up,” the singer stated.
