President Donald Trump has confirmed that the man suspected of shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk is now in custody.

Speaking on Fox & Friends on Friday morning, Trump said he was “highly certain” that law enforcement had arrested the suspect.

According to him, someone close to the alleged shooter helped bring the case to a close. “It was a minister who was involved with law enforcement… his good friend is a top U.S. Marshal – and they took it from there,” Trump revealed.

The president explained that the suspect’s father played a role in persuading him to surrender.

Trump said he did not want to speak ahead of the Justice Department and the FBI, who are expected to release more details later in the day.

Kirk was gunned down on Wednesday during an event at a Utah college campus.

Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha have since traveled to Salt Lake City, where they joined Kirk’s family and close friends in carrying his casket aboard Air Force Two back to Arizona.

Trump, who attended the September 11 remembrance game at Yankee Stadium in New York on Thursday, stayed overnight in the city before appearing live in the Fox News studio.

The investigation into the shooting continues.
