Pop icon Britney Spears has sold the rights to her entire music catalogue to independent music publisher Primary Wave, in a deal reportedly worth around $200 million.
The agreement, finalised on December 30, transfers ownership of Spearsโ hits โ including โโฆBaby One More Time,โ โToxic,โ and โGimme Moreโ โ to the publisher. The precise financial terms of the sale have not been officially disclosed.
Sources familiar with the transaction confirmed that Primary Wave acquired Spearsโ catalogue and additional rights, continuing a trend among global artistes monetising their music assets through large-scale sales.
Spears, 44, is one of the worldโs best-selling female artistes, with over 150 million records sold since her debut in 1999. She has released nine studio albums over the course of her career.
The sale follows the conclusion of Spearsโ highly publicised conservatorship in 2021, which controlled her personal and professional affairs for more than a decade.
Primary Wave, founded by music executive Lawrence Mestel, manages rights for other notable artistes, including Prince, Whitney Houston, and The Notorious B.I.G.
Representatives for Spears and Primary Wave have not provided official comments regarding the deal.
In recent years, several high-profile artistes, such as Bruce Springsteen, Justin Bieber, and Shakira, have also sold their music catalogues in similar high-value agreements.
