Popular Nigerian rapper CDQ has claimed that the country’s music industry is heavily influenced by powerful groups, making it difficult for artists without connections to thrive.

The rapper made the claim during a recent interview with content creator JBrandy, where he spoke about the challenges facing upcoming musicians.

‘Music Industry Has Turned Into A Gang Game’ — CDQ

According to the ‘Nowo Soke’ crooner, many artists now need to belong to a particular circle, caucus or group before they can receive meaningful support in the industry.

“The music industry has turned to a game of belonging to a particular caucus, gang or cult before anyone could actually help you,” he said.

Artists Without Connections Are Lucky, Says Rapper

CDQ suggested that musicians who attain success without aligning themselves with influential groups should consider themselves fortunate.

“So, if you are able to achieve success in the music industry without associating with any cabal or cult group, you should be grateful to God,” he stated.

The rapper argued that talent and financial investment alone may no longer be enough to guarantee success.

‘You Can Spend Millions And Still Get Nothing’

Speaking further, CDQ claimed that artists who operate outside powerful circles often struggle to get results despite investing heavily in their careers.

“If you don’t belong to a particular cult group, you might probably spend a lot of money and not see anything in return,” he said.

CDQ Calls For Change In Music Industry

The rapper urged artists, record label executives and other stakeholders to discourage the culture of associating music with gangsterism and group affiliations.

His comments have since sparked conversations online, with fans and industry observers debating the influence of cliques and power structures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
