Controversial Nigerian content creator DJ Chicken has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos State following a court appearance over an alleged threat to the life of Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
The arraignment took place on Friday before a Magistrate Court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos. The content creator faced a three-count charge bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, conduct likely to cause a breach of the public peace, and making a direct threat to kill, stemming from a viral video where he asserted that President Tinubu would lose his 2027 re-election bid.
“Following the viral video, DJ Chicken retracted his statement, saying it was a joke intended to gain popularity,” according to case details.
Strict bail conditions set as trial stands adjourned
Though the internet personality entered a plea of not guilty to all preferred charges, the court required highly specific criteria before he could secure his release. While granted bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum, the administrative hurdles remain high. One surety must be a verified civil servant, while the other must be a community leader owning landed property within Lagos State, and one of the two individuals must share a direct blood relation with the defendant.
Furthermore, the designated sureties are required to supply evidence of three years of tax clearance, valid utility bills, their National Identification Numbers (NIN), and up-to-date Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) enrollment. Because these strict conditions could not be immediately processed, the magistrate ordered his transfer to Kirikiri pending full compliance, adjourning the criminal matter until August 3, 2026.
