Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres has broken Arsenal’s shirt sales record just days after joining the club from Sporting Lisbon.
The 26-year-old forward was unveiled as a new Arsenal player on Sunday in Singapore, following a £64 million deal that could rise to £70 million with add-ons.
Fans were especially excited after it was confirmed that Gyokeres will wear the famous No. 14 shirt—once worn by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Though he was expected to take the No. 9 shirt, currently worn by Gabriel Jesus, Gyokeres opted for 14.
To celebrate the signing, Arsenal offered free name and number printing for Gyokeres’ jersey—a service that normally costs £16. This offer, available until Thursday, led to a huge spike in shirt demand both online and in stores.
Early sales figures show that his shirt has sold more than any previous new signing at the club, with numbers expected to rise further before the offer ends
