Legendary Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, have died, according to a statement released by their family.

“We are heartbroken by this sudden loss,” the statement said.

Police said homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department are investigating the deaths at Reiner’s home. Authorities believe the case may involve homicide.

A law enforcement source told CNN that investigators interviewed a family member on Sunday evening as part of the investigation.

Rob Reiner was widely known for directing some of Hollywood’s most popular films, including When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride, and A Few Good Men. He first rose to fame as an actor, playing Archie Bunker’s son-in-law on the television series All in the Family.

Following the news of his death, the Screen Actors Guild paid tribute to Reiner, describing him as one of the most important figures in film and television history. Union president Sean Astin said Reiner’s work had a lasting impact on American culture and praised the way his films made audiences think, feel and laugh.

Michele Singer Reiner, who died at age 67, was also active in Hollywood. She worked as a producer, actor and photographer and collaborated with her husband on several projects. She produced documentaries, acted in films, and worked behind the scenes on many of Reiner’s productions. She was also known for her involvement in political and social activism.

Tributes continue to pour in for both Rob and Michele Reiner from colleagues, friends and industry groups.
