Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has opened up about quitting smoking and alcohol, saying the change came after what she described as a spiritual breakthrough.
Dikeh shared her story during a Sunday service at Streams of Joy International Church, led by Pastor Jerry Eze. A video of her testimony was posted on YouTube by DCLImagery.
The actress told the congregation that she started smoking at the age of 13 and struggled with the habit for many years. She also spoke about battles with alcohol addiction, anger issues and other personal struggles, which she said have now ended.
“I started smoking when I was 13,” she said, adding that she believes God has healed her from those habits.
She said coming forward to share her testimony was not easy, as she worried about her public image.
“I almost didn’t come out because I thought about my image,” she said. “But I told myself that the same God who gave me that image can take it away.”
Dikeh explained that after attending the Ghana Prayer Conference, she noticed a major change in her life and felt free from long-standing spiritual struggles.
She also spoke about anger problems that once affected her relationships and peace of mind.
“That anger ruined many things in my life,” she said. “But through prayers, God took it away and gave me peace.”
According to the actress, she only recently began to experience true peace.
“I am 40 years old, and this is the first time I can say I know peace,” she said.
Dikeh revealed that her smoking habit lasted about 27 years and said it began because she was exposed to it at home. She advised parents to be careful about habits their children may copy.
“I started smoking because my father smoked,” she said. “Parents need to be careful.”
She added that after praying, she no longer has cravings for cigarettes or alcohol.
“My body doesn’t ask for it anymore,” she said. “It’s gone.”
Pastor Jerry Eze later prayed for the actress, declaring that her struggles were over and describing her as a voice of hope to others.
Dikeh also shared photos from the church service on Instagram, describing herself as “a living testimony of mercy.”
