Dani Olmo scored twice on Saturday as Barcelona battled back from an early scare to defeat Alaves 3-1 at the Camp Nou and move temporarily top of La Liga.

Alaves shocked the hosts inside the first minute when Pablo Ibanez capitalised on a poor clearance from Marc Casado to fire home. But Barcelona quickly settled, and 17-year-old Lamine Yamal levelled the score with a powerful finish after a low cross from returning winger Raphinha.

Olmo put Barcelona ahead midway through the first half, again benefiting from Raphinha’s fine work on the right. The Brazilian cut the ball back for the midfielder to drill past goalkeeper Antonio Sivera at the near post.

Barcelona controlled the game for long spells but missed chances to extend their lead. Yamal struck the post after rounding the goalkeeper, while Lucas Boye went close for Alaves in a rare counterattack.

Pedri made his long-awaited return from injury in the second half, receiving loud cheers from the 45,000 fans at the partially reopened Camp Nou.

Alaves continued to threaten, but Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi made a crucial block to prevent a Boye equaliser.

Olmo eventually sealed the win in stoppage time, finishing coolly after another impressive run from Yamal.

The victory moves Barcelona two points clear of Real Madrid, who play Girona on Sunday.

“It’s a dream to score here and help the team win,” Olmo told DAZN. “We reacted well after conceding early.”

Alaves defender Jonny Otto said his side fought hard despite the loss. “We had our chances. It’s not easy to make Barcelona nervous,” he said.
