Takumi Minamino was the hero on Saturday as Monaco stunned champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a 1-0 win at the Stade Louis II.
The Japanese forward struck midway through the second half, calmly finishing an Aleksandr Golovin cross to hand Monaco a much-needed victory after three straight Ligue 1 defeats.
The result dealt PSG only their second league loss of the season. Their first came away to Marseille in September.
Monaco were forced to defend deep in the closing minutes after former PSG defender Thilo Kehrer was sent off in the 80th minute following a VAR review. Despite seven minutes of added time, the hosts held firm to secure a memorable win.
The victory lifts Monaco up to sixth place, seven points behind PSG, who remain top with 30 points from 14 games. However, their lead is under threat, with Marseille and Lens both capable of overtaking them before the weekend ends.
Marseille — buoyed by their Champions League win over Newcastle — can go top with a victory against Toulouse later on Saturday, while Lens could leapfrog PSG if they beat Angers on Sunday.
Paul Pogba made another brief substitute appearance for Monaco, continuing his gradual return after a long doping ban.
PSG, fresh from a 5-3 Champions League win over Tottenham, were missing several key players including Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes and Désiré Doué. Ousmane Dembélé also featured for just over half an hour as he continues his fitness recovery.
The defeat means PSG have already matched the total number of league losses they recorded in each of the past two seasons.
