Nigeria’s Super Eagles lifted the 2025 Unity Cup on Saturday evening after a dramatic 5–4 win on penalties against Jamaica at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, England.
The final ended 2–2 in normal time. Nigeria took the lead early in the 9th minute when Moses Simon scored from close range. But Jamaica quickly hit back through Kaheim Dixon, who finished off a low cross from Cephas.
After the break, Samuel Chukwueze restored Nigeria’s lead with a fine shot from the edge of the box in the 53rd minute. However, Jamaica equalised again just 11 minutes later as Jonathan Russell converted another assist from Cephas.
With no winner after 90 minutes, the match went to a penalty shootout.
Nigeria scored their first four spot kicks through Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Tolu Arokodare. Jamaica’s Atkinson missed their fourth attempt by hitting the crossbar, giving Nigeria the edge.
Uche Chriantus scored Nigeria’s final penalty to seal a 5–4 victory.
This is Nigeria’s second Unity Cup title, following their first win in 2004.
