Fresh hope has emerged in the battle to save veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, after he was taken into an operating theatre for treatment.
Actress Toyosi Adesanya disclosed the development following days of emotional appeals from Ogogo’s daughters over his battle with stage-four cancer.
Adesanya said Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, had helped connect the veteran actor with top cancer specialists.
“Senator Yayi personally reached out to top cancer specialists, and we are grateful to learn that Ogogo has now been admitted to the operating theatre for treatment,” she said.
She expressed hope that the procedure would be successful and thanked Nigerians who had responded to the family’s call for help.
“We pray for a successful procedure, complete recovery, renewed strength and many more years of good health for our beloved Nollywood legend,” she added.
The development comes after Ogogo’s daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, publicly revealed that their father had been diagnosed with stage-four cancer.
The family said the seriousness of his condition only became clear in recent weeks.
How Ogogo’s desperate appeal triggered nationwide support
Ogogo’s daughters had initially turned to social media after they said some medical facilities could no longer continue chemotherapy for their father.
Kira said the cancer had affected his abdomen and appealed for specialists who could assess his condition and recommend further options.
Lima similarly stressed that the family’s immediate concern was not fundraising but gaining access to medical professionals capable of taking another look at the case.
Their emotional videos quickly drew attention across Nollywood.
Femi Adebayo urged Nigerians to help the family locate reputable oncologists and advanced treatment facilities, whether in Nigeria or abroad.
Toyin Abraham, Muyiwa Ademola, Bimbo Oshin and other actors also amplified the appeal.
The family had previously acknowledged Senator Adeola’s financial support towards Ogogo’s treatment.
Lima said the senator had promised to continue assisting with medical expenses, while Adesanya’s latest update indicates that his intervention also extended to securing specialist medical attention.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has prayed, offered suggestions, shared the appeal and shown concern for Ogogo,” Adesanya said.
“Ogogo, we are standing with you. You will come out stronger!”
Ogogo, 66, has spent more than four decades in the Nigerian film industry and remains one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba cinema.
For his colleagues and family, attention has now shifted from searching for help to hoping the latest medical intervention produces the breakthrough they have been praying for.
