Marcus Rashford could miss Barcelona’s first LaLiga game against Mallorca as the club struggles to register all its new players.
Rashford joined on loan from Manchester United last month, with an option for a £30m permanent deal. But he, Roony Bardghji, and Wojciech Szczesny are still waiting for clearance to play.
Club president Joan Laporta said on Monday that only goalkeeper Joan Garcia has been registered so far, after the club settled a dispute with Marc-André ter Stegen.
“We’re working to make it happen,” Laporta said. “Hopefully we can register them before LaLiga starts. If not, there’s still time.”
Ter Stegen lost the captaincy last week over an issue linked to his back surgery but has now reached an agreement with the club. His medical report has been filed, and he is back as captain.
Laporta praised him as “an excellent goalkeeper and person” who has spent 12 seasons at the club and won the Champions League.
Barcelona’s financial troubles have often delayed player registrations. Last season, Dani Olmo and Pau Victor were registered temporarily before LaLiga cancelled their licences mid-season, causing a long-running dispute.
